Urmand unei misterioase absente de cativa ani, in care umanitatea a incercat sa se obisnuiasca cu absenta super-eroilor, Omul din Otel se reintoarce pe pamant intr-un epic film de actiune si aventuri intitulat "Superman Returns", un nou capitol inscris in saga celui mai iubit super-erou al umanitatii. Finalul cunoscutei saga se terminase cu infragerea lui Superman si auto-exilarea sa intr-un colt indepartat al galaxiei. La intoarcerea sa pe pamant, Superman este pus in fata dureroasei evidente conform careia femeia pe care o iubise, Louis Lane, urmase un nou drum in viata ei. Reintoarcerea lui Superman il pune pe acesta in situatia de a incerca sa isi gaseasca un loc in societatea care invatase sa supravietuiasca in absenta lui. In incercarea de a apara lumea pe care o iubeste atat de mult de la o distrugere catastrofala, Superman se implica intr-o calatorie epica despre reafirmarea valorilor eroice deja consacrate, care il poarta din cele mai adanci profunzimi ale oceanului pana in cel mai indepartat colt al spatiului cosmic.
